Strategy

For the past four years, the Institute has pursued a consistent strategy to confront the worldwide problem of counterfeit drugs. The strategy, designed to provide regular, high-quality intelligence products has greatly assisted members’ anti-counterfeiting efforts and fostered better communications with the authorities. This dynamic effort has resulted in an improved, more effective anti-counterfeiting capability of its members.

Key Elements

  • Development and implementation of incident reporting
  • Enhanced analytical assessments
  • Improved dissemination of information concerning counterfeiting
  • Training and liaison with international law enforcement, customs officers and drug regulatory authorities

One particular factor critical to the success of the anti-counterfeiting strategy, has been the need to build working partnerships. Neither the pharmaceutical industry nor individual corporations can stand alone against international counterfeiting groups engaged in clandestine, criminal operations. However, working in concert with law enforcement, health care authorities and the customs services, a united front in opposition to counterfeiters has emerged.

PSI participates in a wide range of forums and activities which support anti-counterfeiting efforts. From training seminars to case specific information exchanges, PSI is committed to doing its share to guarantee the distribution of pharmaceuticals which are safe, effective and ultimately benefit all people.
